Health Programs
Golden Gate promotes a healthy lifestyle for the entire family with ongoing health activities throughout the year including:
- Individual consultations and referrals for health care resources
- Salud con Sabor Latino series
Salud con Sabor Latino is an 8-session workshop focusing on Latino families living a healthier lifestyle through nutrition, physical activity, and making small changes to reach these goals. The workshops include hands-on interactive activities such as cooking in the kitchen and taking a tour of the local supermarket. These classes are free, only available in Spanish and open to the public. Call for more information about when these classes will start. Click here to review the current program flyer. (Funded by the Steele Foundation)
- The Promotoras Bienestar project
The goal of this ambitious project is to improve the holistic ‘health’ and well-being of the residents who live in the Mitchell School catchment area (Thomas to McDowell, 35th Ave. to 43rd Ave.), including the physical, mental and social well-being of the community, and to strengthen the community by integrating community residents and organizations into the planning and execution of Promotoras programs.
Promotoras are available to provide case management for families looking for low-cost/free health clinics and insurances, as well as assist families in finding other social services such as counseling, housing, and more. Promotoras promote those services by attending local community events, visiting door-to-door, group and individual health talks, and the Mitchell-Golden Gate Neighborhood Association.
